Auction Against Hunger

Cooking on the night

It’s not easy to get a table at any of their restaurants, but for one night only guests had the unique chance to feast on dishes cooked by ten of London’s top chefs including: Nuno Mendes (Chiltern Firehouse), Skye Gyngell (Spring), Isaac McHale (The Clove Club), Robin Gill (The Dairy), Nieves Barragan Mohacho (Barrafina), Anna Hansen (The Modern Pantry in collaboration with The Collective Dairy), Hamish Brown (ROKA), Jose Pizarro (Pizarro Restaurant), James Lowe (Lyle’s) and Tom Parry (Kitty Fisher’s).

These incredible chefs were joined by Street Feast favourites: Yum Bun, Breddos Tacos, Smokestak, Rola Wola, Bleecker St. Burger and B.O.B.’s Lobster to round out the biggest indoor street food party of the year.

Our hosts

Action Against Hunger hosted the night in collaboration with Ben Maschler, the brainchild of the project, son of restaurant critic Fay Maschler and co-owner of Islington’s Draper’s Arms, together with chef and cookery writer Gizzi Erskine and Jonathan Downey of Street Feast. Tickets for this year’s Auction Against Hunger included entry to the event, a selection of dishes from our fantastic chefs and Street Feast stalls, Champagne Taittinger, Jose Cuervo pint-sized cocktails from Rotary Bar, beer, wine and full range of spirits throughout the night.

The Auction

Guests also had the chance to bid on the evening’s private live and silent auctions offering 'money-can't-buy' experiences from the restaurant world, including:

  • a fishing trip with Tom Parker-Bowles and Mitch Tonks followed by a long lunch at The Seahorse restaurant;
  • the River Café to cook dinner in your house;
  • and the chance to dine out with Sir Terry Wogan.

London foodie website Hot Dinners supported the event with a week-long online auction to help raise crucial funds for malnourished children across the world.

I feel very privileged to have worked in the restaurant industry. We are so lucky to be able to afford to choose what we eat and drink in this country and a wonderful business, full of fantastic people has built up around this fact. Ultimately, what drives me, is the fact that child malnutrition is a solvable problem. I do not feel that we are pouring money in to a black hole - I feel that we are working towards an end. An end that will see the end of child hunger around the world.
